Perched atop a mountain on Mallorca’s north-west coast, this finca-style villa overlooks sweeping vistas of sea and forest, its architecture grounded in the warm tones and textures of the island. But beyond its weathered stone walls and rosy shutters lies a quietly radical transformation - a deeply personal residence shaped by story, soul, and craftsmanship.
This is the work of Bergman Design House, the globally acclaimed London design studio founded by Marie Soliman and Albin Berglund. With projects spanning luxury yachts to private estates, Bergman Design House is known for layering elegance with authenticity, and here, in the hills of Mallorca, they have created a four-bedroom retreat that honours both land and legacy.
The brief, as Marie describes it, was “to transform a traditional finca nestled in the undulating topography of Mallorca into an understated yet luxurious sanctuary - a place that would honour its Mediterranean heritage while introducing a fresh, artful elegance.” The client, a private individual with ties to the world of jewellery, sought a space that felt intimately rooted in its surroundings, while remaining tactile, joyful, and full of design narrative. The villa’s stone façades might feel timeless, but every interior surface has been considered, curated, and quietly elevated.
The four-bedroom, five-bathroom finca opens with serene intention, its living spaces flowing seamlessly from one to the next, grounded in natural materials and a mellow palette drawn from the Mallorcan landscape. “We drew inspiration from the rich tapestry of local stories,” explains Soliman, referencing the ancient terrain of the Serra de Tramuntana, the rugged textures of its mountains, the vibrant marine life, and the island’s historic pearl industry.
This thoughtful layering is immediately apparent in the home’s central spaces. A custom iron staircase, hand-forged by local craftsmen, rises against chalky walls; furniture forms are sculptural but never shout for attention. Lighting is curated, including standout pieces from Wired Lighting, and materials speak in whispers: weathered oak, tactile plaster, and tumbled stone.
Pieces throughout have been sourced with emotion and memory in mind. “We approached it as one might curate an exhibition - thoughtfully, sensitively, and with reverence for both provenance and purpose,” says Soliman. She worked closely with Mallorcan artisans to integrate pottery, metalwork and joinery that feel inherently part of the building’s DNA. Even bespoke elements, such as the orange stone bedside cabinets from Italian furniture makers, carry a sense of material honesty, quietly echoing the hues of the island.
While the living areas are neutral and contemplative, each bathroom tells a vivid story though striking colour and bold materials. “The jewel tones are inspired by the vibrant stones found in the surrounding landscape, and the owner's background in the jewellery business,” says Soliman. “We used semi-precious stones in large scale to create something unprecedented and make the bathrooms a delightful surprise.”
Each of the five bathrooms is clad in a single stone, enveloping the room in extraordinary colour and pattern. In one guest suite, vibrant pink slabs wrap the space and in another, a vein-cut travertine with warm terracotta undertones glows under natural light. Two more bathrooms explore contrasting shades of green - one soft and sage-like with gentle white veining, the other leaning towards turquoise, dappled with brown tones reminiscent of variscite. Vanity furniture, designed by Bergman Design House and crafted by Luxurious Italian Furnishings Ltd, is paired with statement lighting from Apparatus Studio and Northern Lights, and finished with bespoke mirrors above.
The master ensuite is quietly theatrical: a cream-and-black striped stone vanity at the entrance introduces rhythm and geometry, before the room opens into warm beige walls, accented by finca-inspired ceiling beams, and a bathing area that feels connected to the island beyond. A freestanding Ashton & Bentley bath sits in front of a large window, the floor beneath catching the movement of light. Here, as throughout, it is the choice of brassware that completes each composition, with every bathroom fitted with pieces from Samuel Heath’s Landmark LMK Industrial collection in City Bronze.
“Our partnership with Samuel Heath brought a tactile richness and quiet sophistication to each room,” explains Soliman. “We curated a unique model for every bathroom, intentionally varying the designs to reflect the mood, purpose, and spatial character of each. From timeless brass taps to more sculptural, contemporary silhouettes, each choice brought its own rhythm and personality, like a tailored garment for each space.”
It was the City Bronze finish that became the villa’s signature - a quietly confident tone with depth that harmonised perfectly with the textured stones. “We envisioned this villa with effortless luxury,” says Soliman. “Hence bold finishes like gold or chrome would feel out of place. Dark bronze was the perfect choice to offer a more understated presence with subtle elegance.”
The Landmark Industrial collection, with its precision knurling and architectural weight, becomes the unifying detail - appearing as basin taps, concealed showers, and a striking bath and shower mixer in the master suite. Each piece is placed deliberately, working in quiet concert with its backdrop: polished stone, brushed metal, or shadowed light.
“Together, the stones and sanitary ware created a tactile landscape,” adds Soliman, “where water meets surface in a gentle choreography of light and texture. The pairing of Samuel Heath’s heritage design with the organic imperfection of stone felt profoundly luxurious - not in a shouty, high-gloss way, but in the quiet confidence of enduring quality.”
This finca may be rooted in tradition, but its soul has been reawakened. Through sensitive design, poetic materiality and impeccable craftsmanship, Bergman Design House has created a home that feels at once timeless and contemporary - alive with colour, character and calm.
From its hand-forged railings and sculpted furniture to its exquisitely tailored bathrooms, every detail has been considered and emotionally charged. And at its heart is the spirit of collaboration with local artisans, specialist makers, and design partners who understand the art of nuance.
Samuel Heath is proud to have played a part in this project, not only as a product partner, but as a contributor to the atmosphere, tactility, and resonance of a home that honours place, heritage, and individuality. “The craftsmanship of Samuel Heath allowed us to be both expressive and precise,” says Marie, “drawing on a palette of finishes and forms that never overwhelmed the architecture, but elevated it.”
A true Mallorcan sanctuary - quietly extraordinary, and endlessly inspiring.
