Hampstead Arts & Crafts Home, London
Reimagining a listed home for design-conscious clients.
Set in the leafy heart of Hampstead, this Grade II listed Arts & Crafts home has been carefully reimagined for a family with a strong eye for design and detail.
Having lived in the property for more than 15 years, the owners felt it was time to give the house a new lease of life. What had once served the demands of family life with young children now needed to feel more closely aligned with the way they wanted to live.
Interior designer Andrea Benedettini was appointed to undertake a full renovation, balancing the heritage of the Arts & Crafts property with the clients’ vision for an uncluttered, inviting and luxurious interior.
A scheme shaped by art and material detail
The interior is defined by tactile finishes and rich materials. For clients with a carefully curated art collection, including Chagall lithographs, the design needed to feel personal and layered without becoming visually busy.
“The clients have a strong eye for design and a wonderful art collection, so the materials needed to feel rich and collected rather than overly decorated. We wanted each finish to add texture, warmth or contrast, while still feeling part of one coherent home.” Andrea Benedettini
Material selection played a central role throughout. A variety of stones were curated for different spaces, from dramatic marbles in the powder rooms and fireplaces to softer, quieter stones in the bathrooms, creating a more sanctuary-like feel.
Bathrooms and the role of touch
The bathrooms were completely renewed as part of the renovation, with tadelakt plaster used on the walls to create a seamless, tactile finish. The ancient Moroccan, lime-based finish proved particularly effective on the first floor, where it could run across the shower walls and more complex ceiling shapes.
Samuel Heath’s Landmark Pure collection was specified in Country Bronze and Polished Nickel, allowing the brassware to respond to the different character of each bathroom while maintaining a consistent design language.
“Samuel Heath felt like a natural choice for this project because the products have the weight, precision and finish quality we needed. The interiors are very tactile, so every touchpoint had to feel considered, not just visually but in use.” Andrea Benedettini
A home renewed
The completed home feels calm, inviting and deeply personal. Its success lies in the way heritage and contemporary living are held together.
For a family with clear tastes, a strong art collection and an appreciation for detail, Andrea Benedettini has created a home that feels both rooted and renewed.
