Belgravia, London is still home to some of London's most refined buildings, characterised by long rows of Regency-style terraces. In recent years, there seems to be a design renaissance on the horizon, thanks to a fresh wave of interest from younger developers. The movement is spearheaded by a resurgence of new developments underway for 2022 including refurbishment of the unique shopping Village by Anya Hindmarch, The 5-star Peninsula London hotel and new location of the renowned Cleveland Clinic hospital.
This impending evolution, introduced by renowned tastemakers, brings with it an exciting fusion of interior design styles. Building exteriors remain in-keeping with their distinctive heritage, while boasting a fresh historical-meets-contemporary style within. N°1 Belgravia, a 5-storey residence at the heart of London, is a prime example of such a captivating renovation.
Located just a short walk from Sloane square, N°1 Belgravia is located under the ownership of the exclusive Grosvenor Estate, meaning that the exterior preserves its original Georgian character. A private boutique developer appointed internationally award winning interior design studio Accouter Design to work on the townhouse’s interior, to remodel the space with the height of luxury conveniences.
The brief for the architectural design of the home was to create tranquillity within the hustle and bustle of the city. Views and vistas were carefully added to bring the outside in, while an expanse of open living areas are centred around adaptable zones for relaxing and entertaining. On descending the architectural staircase, guests are met by an impressive high gloss bar area, ideal for hosting a soirée, or enjoying a game of chess on a bespoke-made chessboard. On the left, a suite equipped with a spa shower leads into a hidden sanctuary garden which allows guests to be at one with nature.
Aesthetically, Accouter wanted to create a family home that would have a refined but timeless palette, with moments of effortless drama to allow the property to become a unique piece of art in itself. Hand-sourced marble in tonal hues were selected to reflect the sophistication of the property, while statement patterns and use of antique brass finishes to create tailored ‘zones’. An earthy colour palette was chosen to allow artwork and commissioned sculptures to indicate a gallery-like space, illuminated by handmade antique brass chandeliers with distressed glass hanging from above. The natural palette seamlessly flows into a shroud of soft furnishings, in a tonal palette of dusky Prussian blue and fawn, to create a world that is seamlessly executed.
An undeniable sense of style continues within all of the bathroom interiors, which perform as proud entities within the theme of timeless glamour. A ground floor cloakroom features Cararra marble that is artfully book-matched, to find itself at a crossroads of where contemporary meets classic. A Style Moderne basin filler in Polished Nickel with Luxe crystal handles sits proudly in front of a Venetian style mirror, complete with rolled hand towels and designer soaps to create a chic cloakroom experience.
The primary en-suite embodies the same essence of elegance, where unique book-matched Statuario marble sourced from the finest worldwide quarries takes centre stage. A double-ended bath made from ground volcanic limestone sits proudly at the forefront of the room, embellished with the 24-carat gold lustre of Antique Gold bath and basin fixtures with glittering Crystal controls, which lift the design to perfection. A ‘his and hers’ white sycamore vanity unit perfectly centres the room, finished with Style Moderne basin taps with elegantly curved spouts, complemented by towel rings in matching honey-toned gold. A harmony of high-end finishes replicate the feeling of a luxury sanctuary, that you would not expect to find within central London.
N°1 Belgravia is beyond bespoke; seamlessly fusing creativity with practicality. Drawing on their expertise of artisans and designers, Accouter Design exceed the expectations of the trendsetters and industry leaders who set the benchmark for luxury living.
