The Loosdrechtse Plassen, situated in an east hamlet of North Holland, is a protected landscape of interconnected lakes surrounded by rare birds and plants. Unlike its densely populated sister village Nieuw (new) Loosdrecht, Oud (old) Loosdrecht is a small island consisting of mainly lakeside villas, making it an elite destination for holiday-goers to explore its natural landscapes, enjoy its exclusive yachting clubs and dine in restaurants lined along its shores.
Where do you begin to design multiple bathrooms of a family villa that honour this natural monument? High-end bathroom designer Sjartec prioritise ‘wellness’ above all else, putting their trademark “relaxed feel with a touch of luxury” at the forefront of the brief. The studio then looked to the natural surroundings to achieve “colour and a calm appearance”, drawing inspiration from the bright sky (a white marble basin & shower), the expanse of blue water (a BottegaNove iridescent tile mosaic) and timber decking of the harbour (a custom-made oak panel sauna).
For the all-important finer details, Sjartec selected Landmark Industrial brassware to create multiple facilities with spa-like functionality. A jacuzzi and shower situated outside overlooks the scenic lakes, while an inside shower installation created by a series of valve controls provide the ultimate in relaxation. Basin, bath and shower fixtures selected in an Urban Brass finish create the effect of gold ‘jewellery’ within a palette of white and blue and an additional patina adopted over time completes the space with a rustic, relaxed feel.
Loosdrecht Villa transitions thoughtfully from outside to inside, taking inspiration from one paradise in order to create another. Customisation is truly key in Sjartec’s approach to these bathrooms, in which a series of bespoke facilities achieve an all-embracing feeling of calm.
